This Sustainability Symposium’s theme is “Future of Our Energy & Biodiversity”. We have the following distinguished speakers on a range of topics, and will be followed by a panel discussion:
"Climate Change & Biodiversity" by Nermen Maximous, Ph.D., P.Eng.
"A view on the energy future through 2050" by Marc Leblanc, P.Eng., M.Sc. (Mechanical) & Bruno Mendes, M.Sc. (Civil).

BIO OF PRESENTERS:
Nermen Maximous, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Dr. Maximous received her Ph.D. degree in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (Environmental and Green Engineering) from Western University, London, Ontario. She has more than fifteen years of experience working and researching in the Environmental, Water and Wastewater fields. She has an extensive experience in marine pollution, water and sediment analysis, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment processes development with a focus on membrane preparation and application technology. She has provided environmental technical support for both governmental agencies and industry. Recently, she has been pursuing her interest in studying Environmental laws and policies. Dr. Maximous is the first author and the principal author of a series of published articles. She is also a reviewer for the Journal of Membrane Science; Journal of Hazardous Materials, Journal of Hydrogen Energy and Journal of Bioresource Technology, published by Elsevier. Dr. Maximous is a member of the PEO- Equity and Diversity Committee (EDC).
Marc LeBlanc., P.Eng., M.Sc.(Mechanical)
Mr. Marc LeBlanc has been an independent engineering consultant in the renewable energy industry for over 15 years. Marc is currently responsible for managing a team delivering technical due diligence services for wind energy projects across North America. Prior to 2010, Marc was the managing and founding director of DNV GL's Canadian offices in Ottawa and Vancouver and served on board of CanWEA from 2005 to 2011. His studies include a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Bruno Mendes, M.Sc. (Civil)
Mr. Mendes oversees engineering reviews in support of due diligence assessments of utility grade renewable energy projects globally, as a member of the civil engineering team with DNV GL Renewables Advisory, Bruno has nearly 10 years of experience in the engineering practice, including work in the Oil and Gas sector (offshore) specifically on geotechnical design of subsea structures, follow up on fabrication, and as offshore representative during installation of piles and grouted connections. Mr. Mendes received his M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from New University of Lisbon in Portugal.
Raymond Leury MBA, President of Electrical Vehicle Council of Ottawa, http://Evco.ca, (613) 720-0854
Now semi-retired, Raymond had a career as a IT Consultant for over 25 years, consulting to both private and public sector clients throughout Canada and the United States. The last 18 years he spent working for Microsoft culminating in the position of Principal Consultant. Raymond has always been interested in environmental issues. That has led him to purchase an electric vehicle (EV) 5 years ago and to get involved with EV owner’s groups, where he now occupies the position of President for the Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa and is a Director of EV Society and Ontario based umbrella for local EV owners groups. Raymond attended Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project leadership corps which re-ignited his passion for environmental issues, in particular the reduction of green house gas emissions.
Raymond splits his time between advocating for EVs, talking climate change and volunteering with the Red Cross.
