The start of Family STEM Activities will be held on Wednesday September 23rd from 6:00pm to 7:00pm for an online group session where participants can tune in from their homes. Then will continue at the families own pace to complete the remainder of the activities at home. This event will allow families to explore how all parts of an ecosystem play an integral roll to its success. Together they will learn to use educational technology and experience the design process through creative problem solving. This event will inspire youth to explore coding and technology and provide confidence in their family members to encourage STEM learning outside the classroom at home. The evening will include:  3 instructional videos that allow families to work through the project. Part 1: Live introduction of the project and exploration of background knowledge. Exploring a local area/ecosystem and how biodiversity insures its longevity. Part 2: Working with Scratch to create an interactive story. Introduction to Scratch programming to create a simple biological diverse system. Coding a story of how each aspect is connected to another. Part 3: Making with Makey Makey Introduction to Makey Makey and how it can be used to bring a story to life. Using principles of conductivity to create circuits that will allow any user to interact with the previously coded Scratch program. Further illustrating the importance of biodiversity.
