UNEP Mountain Hero Will Gadd travelled to Tanzania in early 2020 to ice climb the Messner Route on top of Kilimanjaro. What he encountered upon arrival was hard to believe: The route did not exist anymore because of glacier loss. Losing something he deeply cares for inspired Will to rethink what he can do to lessen his contribution to climate change.

Inspired by „The Last Ascent“ - a film about Will's journey on Kilimanjaro, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) organizes this Mountains High online session on International Mountain Day on 11 December 2020.

Join an inspiring conversation that brings together outdoor and nature enthusiasts with experts from the UN and science to discuss the effects of climate change on mountains and the power of sports for climate action.
