In 2006, Krista arrived on the remote Marshallese atoll of Ebon to teach English for a year. She witnessed first hand the impacts of raising sea levels and the impacts it's having on these Pacific Islanders who are seeing their home and way of life disappear beneath the waves.

Krista reports, writes and edits stories about people, places and the natural world. She also write a monthly online column for Outside magazine about kids and the outdoors. Additionally, her words and photographs have been published by Adventure Journal, The Atlantic, bioGraphic, FiveThirtyEight, Hakai, National Geographic News, Orion, Pacific Standard, Smithsonian, and a number of other magazines and websites.
