From the tender age of five, Barbara knew she wanted to be a scientist. She witnessed the human impact on the forests and fields around her home in rural Quebec, and grew concerned with the challenges wildlife faced within a rapidly changing world. She will share her journey of pursuing a career in science, from her academic pursuits, to getting a PhD, spending more than a decade as a field ecologist, co-founding a bird banding station, and tackling her inherent fear of math equations to become a Quantitative Wildlife Biologist with the Canadian Wildlife Service. Barbara will give examples of the kind of challenges she tackles in applied conservation sciences to help inform policy and management of migratory birds in Canada and beyond.
