Experience autumn on the prairie in the Military Ridge Prairie Heritage Area and learn about one of the most important processes in shaping and maintaining the health of prairies — fire.

Join prescribed fire and grassland plant and animal experts for a walk at TNC’s Thomson Memorial Prairie near the village of Blue Mounds southwest of Madison. We’ll look for fall-blooming wildflowers and prairie grasses, resident and remaining migratory grassland birds, and learn how TNC and partners in the Military Ridge Prairie Heritage Area use prescribed fire to manage this grassland ecosystem.
