Nestled in the Mackenzie Mountains in the Northwest Territories, Canada, the Canol Heritage Trail is a 355km rugged alpine traverse on the homelands of the Shúhtagot’ı̨nę. Each year, the Canol Youth Leadership Hike brings young indigenous participants from around the Sahtú region of the NWT to retrace the footsteps of their ancestors on this historic trading route with a complex WWII history weaved throughout its deep canyons, rivers, and mountain vistas. In 2017, two filmmakers from Trails In Tandem teamed up with a young leader from the Sahtú and the founder of the Canol Youth Leadership Hike to design and execute a documentary film project following the youth leadership hike.
