Dani is a Red River Métis-settler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. As an elementary and middle school student, she was so concerned and passionate about environmental issues that she would create and present mini lectures to her parents about climate crises and sustainability. Nowadays Dani is channeling that energy into working on a PhD thesis documenting biodiversity of freshwater invertebrates in the High Arctic, which will be changing dramatically in the coming decades due to impacts of a warming climate. Join in to learn why this type of work is important in the context of climate change, how scientists use DNA methodologies to document biodiversity, and to check out some cool bugs that you can look for in the summertime in your own communities!
