Keri has worked in Antarctica as a contractor for the United States Antarctic Program for 15 years, at several science bases around the continent. She’s done jobs as diverse as scrubbing toilets, running the station stores, managing the post office at the South Pole, hosting tourists, and many other duties that help make these US stations run smoothly. Her experiences are a great example of how people with non-science backgrounds still make big impacts on science operations today, and also, how taking non-traditional career paths can lead to some really interesting jobs.
