In celebration of World Water Day (March 22), Towana Brooks (School Coordinator, Waabgon Gamig School) and Jennifer Baron (Grade 2 Teacher, Lakeside Public School) will share about their collaborative, award-winning “Water Inquiry with an Indigenous Perspective”. Inspired by the work of the late Water Walker Josephine Mandamin, their inquiry led to a water walk which engaged over 200 students in deepening their relationship to the local lake – their source of drinking water. Drawing connections from land-based inquiry, Indigenous knowledge, issues of social justice, math, and cycles of water and the moon, Towana and Jen will explore the infinite potential of water to authentically engage learners in cross-curricular learning about and for the natural world, creating ripples of reciprocity for all life across Turtle Island.
