As a forest ecologist, an average day in Melinda's 'office' sees her exploring parts of the Florida Everglades people rarely get to see! She regularly contends with swampy water, alligators, high heat and biting/stinging insects while collecting important information. What's she up to? Melinda is studying trees in ghost forests, trying to learn how they are contributing to climate change. What's a ghost forest? As sea levels rise, it floods forests  killing the trees. Melinda is trying to understand how quickly the greenhouse gases they store is being released back into the atmosphere and what it means for our planet.
