Shannon is a senior research technician at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) in the Zooplankton Biodiversity lab where she deep-sea animals and she has discovered numerous species new to science, including Alviniconcha strummeri named for Joe Strummer (The Clash). She spends time at sea on research expeditions to collect animals with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) as well blue-water SCUBA diving. She spends a significant amount of time sharing the secret that science and math are actually super fun, when she’s not surfing, skiing, or snowboarding that is.
