Annelys Roque Gardner is a proud Cuban immigrant, wife, annoying little sister, above average cook, dog-mom, so-so distance runner, and Infectious Diseases doctor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After a perilous journey through the Florida straits on a raft and six months in a refugee camp, she immigrated to the United States from Cuba with her family when she was 7 years old. This presentation is part of our “I Was a Kid” series and details Annelys’s journey and career switch from doing science through deep sea exploration to helping others through medicine.
