Heather is dedicated to understanding the distribution and abundance Antarctic wildlife, particularly Antarctic penguins and seals. Her lab has also developed many of the tools needed to survey penguin colonies from satellite imagery, which allows researchers to track populations of penguins even in areas too remote to access by ship. Her work has been highlighted in numerous outlets for kids and young adults, including in National Geographic Kids magazine and in the most recent volume of the Explorer’s Academy series.
